Refractometer for measuring operating fluids and AdBlue

A refractometer is a device that enables the determination of the physical properties of a liquid by measuring the refractive index at the medium boundary. With the refractometer it is possible to determine the state of battery charge, the freezing point of cooling liquids based on propylene glycol or ethylene glycol, the freezing point of windshield washer fluids and also the concentration of the AdBlue additive.

Measurement options:

How to measure the liquid:
  • 1. Use the pipette to take a small amount of liquid.
  • 2. Lift the cover plate and place 2–3 drops of liquid on the device prism.
  • 3. Close the cover plate so that the measured liquid spreads evenly and without bubbles across the prism surface.
  • 4. After 30 seconds, point the cover plate toward a light source and look into the eyepiece.
  • 5. The image should be focused using the focusing ring, and read the position of the light/shadow boundary on the appropriate scale indicating the properties of the liquid.
